Privacy Policy

Fathomself is run by Fathomself Limited, a New Zealand company (the "we", "us", "our" in this policy). We take your privacy seriously, and we have written this policy in plain English so you can actually understand it.

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it.

What we collect

To create your numerology report, we ask you for three things:

  1. Your full birth name.
  2. Your birth date.
  3. Your email address.

We also automatically collect basic technical information when you use the site, such as your device type, browser, and general location based on your IP address. We use this to keep the site working and secure.

If you buy the full report, our payment provider collects your payment details. We never see or store your full card number. See "Who we share your information with" below.

Why we collect it

We collect your birth name and birth date for one reason: to calculate your numerology chart and generate your personalised report. That is the whole purpose.

We collect your email address so we can send you your report, and, only if you choose to opt in, so we can send you ongoing insights. You can opt out of those emails at any time.

We do not use your birth name or birth date for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.

How your report is generated (AI processing)

We are openly an AI product, and we will never pretend otherwise.

Your numerology chart is calculated by our own software. To write the personalised, readable part of your report, we send the calculated results, along with your first name, to a third-party large language model (AI) provider. We do not send your email address to the AI provider. The AI provider processes this information to generate text and returns it to us.

The report is for self-reflection and entertainment. It is not advice, and it is not a prediction. See our Terms of Service.

Who we share your information with

We use a small number of trusted third-party providers to run Fathomself. Each one only receives the information it needs to do its job:

  1. A large language model (AI) provider - receives your numerology results and your first name to write your report. Does not receive your email or birth date in full.
  2. A payment provider - processes your payment when you buy the full report. Depending on the provider, it may also act as the merchant of record for the purchase. It collects your payment and billing details directly under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your full card number.
  3. An email delivery provider - receives your email address and report so we can send it to you.
  4. A hosting provider (Vercel) - hosts the website and processes data as it passes through the site.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers for them to use as their own.

Your information may be processed outside New Zealand

Some of our providers are based overseas, including in the United States. This means your personal information may be stored or processed outside New Zealand.

Where we send personal information outside New Zealand, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected by comparable safeguards to those required under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, for example by using providers that are contractually bound to protect your information. By giving us your information and using Fathomself, you understand that it may be processed overseas as described here.

How long we keep it

We keep your personal information only as long as we need it:

  1. Your report and the information used to create it: kept for 24 months from your last activity, so you can ask us to resend it and so we can support you.
  2. Your email address, if you opted in to ongoing emails: kept until you opt out or ask us to delete it.
  3. Purchase and tax records: kept for 7 years, because New Zealand tax law requires it.

After these periods, we delete or anonymise your information.

How we protect it

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

  1. Ask what personal information we hold about you (access).
  2. Ask us to correct it if it is wrong (correction).
  3. Ask us to delete it (we will, unless we are legally required to keep it, for example tax records).

To make any of these requests, email us at hello@fathomself.com. We will respond within 20 working days, as required by the Privacy Act.

If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at www.privacy.org.nz.

If you are in the EU or the UK

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have additional rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR. These include the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, and object to the processing of your information, and the right to receive a copy of it in a portable format.

Our legal basis for processing your information is:

  1. To create and send your report: performance of a contract with you, and your consent when you submit your details.
  2. To send you ongoing emails: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

We rely on your consent and appropriate safeguards for transferring your information outside the EU and UK.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@fathomself.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

If you are in the United States

We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under United States state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. You can ask us to access or delete your information by emailing hello@fathomself.com.

Advertising measurement (Meta Pixel)

We use the Meta Pixel for advertising measurement. This tracks page views and purchase events. You can opt out via your Facebook ad preferences or by using a browser ad blocker.

Children

Fathomself is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a significant change, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know by email.
