Privacy Policy

Fathomself is run by Fathomself Limited, a New Zealand company (the “we”, “us”, “our” in this policy). We take your privacy seriously, and we have written this policy in plain English so you can understand it.

Who we are

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, see the section “If you are in the EU or the UK” for how to reach us.

What we collect

To create your numerology reading, we ask you for these details:

1. Your full birth name.
2. The name you go by, if it differs from your birth name.
3. Your birth date.
4. Your email address, if you choose to leave it.

We also automatically collect basic technical information when you use the site, such as your device type, browser, and general location based on your IP address. We use this to keep the site working and secure.

If you buy a Deep Report, our payment provider collects your payment details. We never see or store your full card number. See “Who we share your information with”.

When you buy a gift, we keep your name and email address, and the first name and message you give for the person receiving it. If you choose a date for us to send it, we also keep their email address, that date and your time zone. We use these only to send the gift card and your receipt. Your name and message appear on the gift card, and anyone who enters its code sees them. When the gift is redeemed, the person redeeming it gives us their own name, birth date and email address. We use those to write and deliver their report, and we do not share them with the buyer.

Why we collect it

We collect your names and birth date to calculate your numerology chart and write your reading. If you opt in to ongoing emails, we also use them to write the emails about your reading.

We collect your email address so we can send you your report, and, only if you choose to opt in, so we can send you ongoing emails. You can opt out of those emails at any time.

We do not use your names or birth date for advertising on other sites or platforms, and we do not sell your personal information to anyone.

How your report is written (AI processing)

Fathomself calculates your numerology chart from your full birth name, the name you go by, and your birth date, using the standard Pythagorean system. Every reading, free or paid, is then created for you by the Fathomself Synthesis Engine. The Fathomself Synthesis Engine uses an AI model in making your reading. Your numbers are calculated first, and the model works from those numbers and from the meanings the engine has checked against 218 works across the tradition. It never calculates a number itself, never switches to a different numerology system, and never predicts events. The AI model may receive your full birth name, the name you go by, your full birth date, your age, and your calculated chart. It does not receive your email address. Every report passes quality and fact checks before it reaches you, and a person checks any Deep Report the checks flag.

Who we share your information with

We use a small number of trusted third-party providers to run Fathomself. Each one only receives the information it needs to do its job:

1. A large language model (AI) provider writes your reading. The AI model may receive your full birth name, the name you go by, your full birth date, your age, and your calculated chart. It does not receive your email address.
2. A speech provider (Google Cloud Text-to-Speech) receives the text of your report to produce the audio version, only when you add the audio to your order. That text includes your full birth name, the name you go by, and your birth date. It does not receive your email address.
3. A payment provider (Stripe) processes your payment when you buy a Deep Report. Fathomself Limited is the seller and merchant of record. Stripe collects your payment and billing details directly under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your full card number.
4. A database provider (Upstash) stores your report record: your names, your birth date, the email address you leave, and the text of your report, so your reading can be restored and resent.
5. A file store (Vercel Blob) holds the files made for your reading: its text and working files and, for a Deep Report, the keepsake PDF and, when you added it, the audio version.
6. An email delivery provider receives your email address and each email we send you, such as your report and, if you opted in, the emails about your reading. It tells us whether each email was delivered and opened: our emails carry a tiny image that loads when you open them. Links in our emails to our own site carry a label naming the email, so our analytics can see which email you came from.
7. A hosting provider (Vercel) hosts the website and processes data as it passes through the site.
8. Advertising and analytics providers: Google Analytics and Google Ads, TikTok, Pinterest, Microsoft Clarity, and Vercel receive limited technical and event data as described in “Advertising and analytics”. They do not receive your birth name, birth date, or report content.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers for them to use as their own.

Your information may be processed outside New Zealand

Some of our providers are based overseas, including in the United States. This means your personal information may be stored or processed outside New Zealand.

Where we send personal information outside New Zealand, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected by safeguards comparable to those required under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, for example by using providers that are contractually bound to protect your information. By giving us your information and using Fathomself, you understand that it may be processed overseas as described here.

How long we keep it

We keep your personal information only as long as we need it:

1. Your Deep Report and the information used to create it: kept for 24 months from your last activity, so you can ask us to resend it and so we can support you.
2. Your Free Reading and the information used to create it: kept for one year from the day it is written, or from the day we last emailed you a link to it. Opening the link does not extend that year. If you buy a Deep Report, we may keep your Free Reading for as long as we keep your Deep Report.
3. Your email address, if you opted in to ongoing emails: kept until you opt out or ask us to delete it.
4. Your names and birth date, if you opted in to ongoing emails: a copy is kept to write the emails about your reading, and deleted when those emails end or you opt out.
5. Purchase and tax records: kept for 7 years, because New Zealand tax law requires it.
6. Gift card details (the names, email addresses, message, send date and time zone given when a gift is bought): kept until a month after the gift code expires. A gift code is valid for three years from purchase.
7. Share-link records (your Deep Report order’s names, birth date and email address, kept so a purchase through your shared link can be matched to you, and whether one earned the share reward): kept for 400 days.

After these periods, we delete or anonymise your information.

How we protect it

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:

1. Ask what personal information we hold about you (access).
2. Ask us to correct it if it is wrong (correction).
3. Ask us to delete it. We do, unless we are legally required to keep it, for example tax records.

To make any of these requests, email hello@fathomself.com. We respond within 20 working days, as the Privacy Act requires.

If you are not happy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at www.privacy.org.nz.

If you are in the EU or the UK

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have further rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR. These include the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, and object to the processing of your information, and the right to receive a copy of it in a portable format.

Our legal basis for processing your information is:

1. To create and send your report: performance of a contract with you, and your consent when you submit your details.
2. To send you ongoing emails: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

We rely on your consent and appropriate safeguards for transferring your information outside the EU and UK.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@fathomself.com. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

If you are in the United States

We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under United States state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act. You can ask us to access or delete your information by emailing hello@fathomself.com.

Advertising and analytics

We use analytics and advertising tools to understand how people find and use Fathomself and to measure our advertising. These record page views, how pages are used (for example how far a page is scrolled and which buttons are pressed), and purchase events, and may set cookies or similar identifiers. Where the law requires your consent, nothing tracks until you accept.

1. Google Analytics and Google Ads: measurement and advertising conversion tracking.
2. TikTok Pixel: advertising measurement.
3. Pinterest Tag: advertising measurement.
4. Microsoft Clarity: anonymised session analytics (heatmaps and session replay) to see how pages are used. Form inputs, including your name, date of birth, and email, are masked and never recorded.
5. Vercel Analytics: privacy-friendly site analytics.

These tools do not receive your birth name, birth date, or report content. You can opt out through your ad and privacy settings on each platform, or by using a browser ad blocker. If we add Meta advertising in future, we list the Meta Pixel here before it goes live.

None of these tools run on your private report pages. There we keep our own counts of how those pages are used, with no cookie and nothing that identifies you. When you buy, your order records which website, search, or advert brought you to Fathomself.

Children

Fathomself is for people aged 18 and over. A parent or guardian can request a reading for someone aged 13 to 17. They confirm that they are that person’s parent or guardian when we ask, and the report is written for that person’s age. We do not make readings for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us their information, contact us and we delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make a significant change, we update the date at the top and, where appropriate, let you know by email.
